Cluster of Excellence PhenoRob Selected

DFG will fund collaborative research in robotics and plant sciences

The Cluster of Excellence proposal PhenoRob – Robotics and Phenotyping for Sustainable Crop Production was selected for funding by the excellence committee of international experts and science politicians. The seven-year large-scale project will start Jan 1st 2019. Researchers of the Agricultural and Computer Science Departments of University of Bonn will collaborate with plant and soil scientists of Research Center Jülich to develop methods and technologies for multi-scale monitoring of plants and their environment using autonomous robots. This will allow for automated and individualized intervention that will change crop production on all levels.
All three Bonn robotics groups (Cyrill Stachniss Co-speaker, Maren Bennewitz PI, Sven Behnke PI) are involved.
